HISTORY OF WORLDWIDE MUSIC NETWORK
WORLDWIDE MUSIC NETWORK is the creation of Stu Nankin, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin who also lived and worked in Minneapolis and Los Angeles as a professional bassist and recording engineer, and as a professional deejay. He has also been a researcher and archivist of jazz, popular music and movie soundtracks. In addition to having many years of professional experience, Stu has also amassed a personal library that includes thousands of rare LPs, 45s, CDs and tapes.
When the band business went through a slow period back in the early 80's, Stu decided to venture into other areas where his knowledge, experience and resources could be put to good use. In 1982, two separate but interrelated companies were created, one of which was a high end professional DJ service that specialized in large corporate events and alumni reunions, the other, a service focusing on the location and sale of rare and collectable records.
Building a comprehensive music library and recognizing the resurgence of interest in oldies and nostalgia that peaked during that time period, Stu D. Baker Enterprises and Worldwide Music Network were simultaneously created. As people wanted to enjoy the music they remembered from earlier days, Stu sought to accomodate these needs. The two businesses complemented each other and very quickly became successful.
In the mid-80's, digital recording and remastering became an established technology in the music industry, used in recording studios and by record companies who were preparing to do CD reissues of previously released recordings. Wanting to stay at the cutting edge, Stu studied digital recording through the UCLA extension program, and by 1989, added to Worldwide Music Network's menu of services, the conversion of analog recordings to digital CD format. Soon after, the technology to restore audio recordings was incorporated, as a means of "cleaning them up" before transfering them to digital audio tape or recordable discs, either for professional mastering purposes or private consumer use.
WORLDWIDE MUSIC NETWORK maintains and utilizes the most up to date technology, always offering and producing the highest quality and giving the ultimate in service to our customers.
